Seminar: Genomic Surveillance of Emerging Viruses: A Bioinformatics Perspective

On August 11, 2025, the Laboratory of Data Discovery for Health (D²4H) and the School of Public Health at The University of Hong Kong (HKU) co-organised a seminar titled “Genomic Surveillance of Emerging Viruses: A Bioinformatics Perspective.”

Professor Yu-Nong Gong, Assistant Professor at Chang Gung University, Taiwan, delivered a presentation on the role of bioinformatics in monitoring the evolution and transmission of emerging viruses, including SARS-CoV-2, influenza, and enteroviruses. He outlined the use of computational methods to track viral evolution and transmission in real time, and discussed the importance of scalable analysis pipelines and unbiased metagenomic approaches in enhancing detection and response to novel viral threats.

The seminar concluded with thanks to all participants for their attendance and engagement.
